Ductwork System Installation

A Material Handling System that Optimizes Flow Rates

Ductwork System Installation

SEFA served as the owner’s engineer to manage the design, procurement, and installation of a ductwork system, structural steel supports, and associated instrumentation. The ductwork system would optimize flow rates of material moving from a gas cooler to a baghouse.

Equipment installation was completed by SEFA’s field team during a planned outage. To safely remove existing ductwork and place new sections into position, several critical and noncritical lift plans were developed in collaboration with the crane vendor and a structural engineer.

Tasks were sequenced to minimize downtime while maximizing safety. After the existing ductwork was removed, structural steel and seismic beams were added to support the weight of the new ductwork. New ductwork sections that had shipped for just-in-time delivery were assembled in the staging area and lifted into position for final installation. Ladders, platforms, and handrails were also installed to help improve safety during future maintenance on the ductwork.
