Material and Labor Planning for Outages

SEFA Industrial Solutions works as an extension of our customer teams to help complete outage projects. Current supply chain challenges and labor shortages can affect these projects in the form of delays, costs, or simply being able to complete the intended work scope during the designated project window.  Here are some of the steps we take to manage these variables and help achieve positive outcomes.

Material Planning

  • Depending on the parts or equipment involved, suppliers need more time to locate materials, confirm availability, and ensure delivery. By providing material needs to suppliers several weeks or even months in advance, we find they are better able to research multiple sourcing solutions and fulfill requests.

  • Material costs can fluctuate between a supplier’s initial quote and the final purchase date. We closely track material pricing with suppliers and keep customers informed on changes that affect purchasing decisions.

  • If specific equipment or parts are not available, we explore alternative solutions such as repair versus replace or custom fabrication.

  • To prevent fulfillment and shipping delays, we schedule for advance delivery to our warehouse or to the customer site and avoid just-in-time delivery or expensive rush shipping.

Labor Planning

  • By meeting with customers during their outage planning phase, we develop a detailed work scope and consider interdependent tasks.  With this information, we then schedule the days, the equipment, and the appropriate team of craftsmen for the outage dates.

  • We focus on having experienced craftsmen as full-time employees who are well-versed in our processes and procedures. As key team members, they understand that safety and quality are the priorities.

  • Internal kickoff meetings review project and site-specific processes, procedures, and quality requirements. Once the outage begins, daily team meetings review tasks, changes in scope or schedule, and Job Safety.

As you begin to plan your next outage, please contact us if you would like to discuss your project needs.
